Built-In WiFi
A lot the the major garage door opener brands are now making their systems with a wireless receiver. This is probably the most reliable solution, but also the most cost prohibitive. Upgrading your entire system will obviously come with it’s perks like professional installation and WiFi set-up. A great option, especially if your current system is outdated or you’re remodeling or starting from scratch.
Add-On Remote Operating Systems
If you aren’t quite up for replacing your entire door opener, there are quite a few systems on the market that you can buy and directly connect to your home’s internet and router. These products will allow you to control your garage door from anywhere in the world. Great for letting in delivery people, kids who forgot their keys or closing the door from work when you accidentally leave it open. They tend to be fairly affordable and simple to install.
Close Range Bluetooth Apps
Perhaps the most inexpensive options is a simple Bluetooth receiver and phone app. Generally they are easily attached by just a few wires and connect to your phone just as you would with a headset or speakers. It will only work when you are in Bluetooth range but can be set up for practically nothing. There are also versions of these systems that can be set up to automatically open and close your garage when your Bluetooth connects and disconnects, which can be a very practical arrangement, especially for motorcycles or bicyclers.
