Tips to Keeping Your Garage Door Clean

Like other features on the exterior of your home, the garage door is exposed to the elements in each season and can become dirty over time. Dirt and grime that settle onto the surface can not only affect the materials but can detract from your home’s curb appeal. If you want to keep your garage door clean, there are a few important tips to follow.

Wax the Door

One of the main steps to keeping the garage door clean is to wax to the steel portion of the door while following the manufacturer’s instructions. You’ll need to apply wax to every surface that is exposed to the elements to avoid damage and deterioration. Failing to apply a barrier with the wax will eventually lead to excess wear. Use a liquid wax and avoid using any type of pastes.

Use a Mild Detergent Mixture

Make it a point to rinse off the garage door every three months to remove dirt and grime that has settled on the surface. Use a mixture of one cup of dish soap or car wash soap with five gallons of warm water when scrubbing the exterior of your garage door. Use a non-abrasive sponge or cloth to prevent scratches or scuffs from developing as you wipe dirt off of the garage door. Avoid pressure washing the door, which can lead to dents and will require garage repair in Long Beach. Oil stains that are present can be cleaned with bleach.

Use a Magic Eraser to Remove Scuffs

Scuffs and thick dirt can be removed with the use of a Magic Eraser by gently scrubbing the garage door and using a bit of strength. Rinse and ring out the product as you work on cleaning the garage door in sections. Have extra erasers on hand to replace the ones that become worn down as you remove the scuffs.
